About this tool

Turns HTML entities back into the characters they stand for. It uses your browser's own HTML parser, so it decodes numeric entities such as © and 😀 (including emoji above U+FFFF) and every named entity the browser knows, such as &, <, © and é. Angle brackets in your input are kept as literal text, and the text is parsed in a detached document, so no HTML is rendered and no script runs. Decoding is a single pass. Everything happens in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Paste text containing entities.
  2. Read the decoded text in the output.
  3. Copy the result.

Example

Input
<p>Tom & Jerry © é 😀
Result
<p>Tom & Jerry © é 😀

Common problems

Double-encoded input like &amp;lt;
One pass is done, so &amp;lt; becomes &lt;. Run it again to decode the next layer.
A non-breaking space looks like a normal space
&nbsp; becomes a no-break space character (U+00A0), which looks the same but is a different character.
Entities without a semicolon
Follow the browser's rules: only a few legacy names such as &amp or &copy work without a semicolon. Add the semicolon to be safe.
