About this tool
Paste two JSON documents and the tool compares them structurally and lists every difference as a path such as $.user.tags[2], marked as added, removed or changed with the old and new value. Unlike a line-by-line text diff, it ignores whitespace, formatting and the order of object keys, so reformatted or re-sorted files show as identical. Arrays are compared position by position, so inserting an item near the start will show later items as changed. Differences in type, for example the number 1 versus the string "1", are reported as changes. Large documents are compared in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
How to use it
- Paste the original JSON on the left and the changed JSON on the right.
- Fix any invalid JSON message that appears under either side.
- Read the list of differences, or press Copy report.
- Use Swap sides to reverse the direction of the comparison.
Common problems
- A reordered array shows many changes
- Arrays are compared by position. Sort both arrays the same way first if the order does not matter to you.
- The text diff says different but this says identical
- Only whitespace or key order differs. JSON treats those as the same data.
- Invalid JSON error
- Check for trailing commas, single quotes or comments, which JSON does not allow.
