About this tool

Pick a video and a subtitle file (.srt or .ass), and the tool burns the text permanently into the picture using ffmpeg's subtitles filter in WebAssembly, then outputs an MP4 named after your video. For an .srt file you can choose the font size, color (white, yellow or black) and position (bottom, middle or top). An .ass file keeps the styling written inside it, so those controls do not apply to it. Everything runs in your browser and neither file is uploaded. Because the video must be re-encoded, expect a long wait and some quality loss, and long or high-resolution videos may run out of memory. The first run downloads the ffmpeg engine (about 25 MB) from this site, which can take from a few seconds to a minute on a slow connection; later runs on the same page reuse it.

How to use it

  1. Choose the video as File 1.
  2. Choose your .srt or .ass subtitle file as the second file.
  3. For an .srt file, pick the font size, color and position, then press Process and wait; re-encoding is slow.
  4. Preview the result and press Download.

Common problems

Processing fails with a subtitles message
The in-browser ffmpeg build may lack the subtitle renderer or fonts. This is a known limit; try a short clip with a plain SRT file.
My .ass file looks different from my player
The .ass file is rendered with its own styles, but only the bundled font (DejaVu Sans) is available, so text that needs another font falls back to it. Convert to SRT and pick a style here if you want a plain look.
Subtitles are out of sync
Timing comes from the file. Fix the timestamps in the SRT, as this tool has no offset setting.
