About this tool
Markdown is a plain-text way to write headings, lists, links, tables and code that turns into formatted documents. This editor shows the formatted result next to your text as you type. It understands GitHub-flavoured Markdown, so tables, strikethrough, task lists and fenced code blocks work. The toolbar inserts the syntax for headings, bold, italic, lists, links, images, tables and code; Ctrl+B and Ctrl+I work too. When you are done you can copy the HTML, download the Markdown or a ready-made HTML page, or print the preview to PDF with your browser's print dialog (choose Save as PDF). Everything happens in your browser. Your text is not uploaded, and your draft is kept in this browser's local storage so it is still there when you come back; the Clear button removes it. The preview is cleaned before it is shown: scripts, event handlers, forms, frames, styles and dangerous links are removed, so pasting a document from an unknown source cannot run code in the page. For privacy, images that point to other websites are not loaded by default, because loading them tells that site you opened the document; tick the box if you want to see them. The HTML you download is a standalone page with a strict content policy of its own. The editor handles documents up to 2 million characters. If you only need to turn Markdown into HTML code without an editor, use the Markdown to HTML converter.
How to use it
- Type or paste Markdown on the left; use the toolbar to add formatting.
- Check the preview on the right.
- Tick Show remote images only if you need to see pictures hosted elsewhere.
- Copy the HTML, download .md or .html, or choose Print or save as PDF.
Common problems
- My image does not show in the preview
- Images from other websites are blocked until you tick Show remote images. Pictures embedded as data:image (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP) always show.
- My HTML or script disappeared
- The preview removes scripts, forms, frames, styles and similar elements for safety. Plain HTML such as bold, links and tables is kept.
- The saved draft is gone
- The draft lives in this browser only. It is lost if you clear site data, use a private window or switch browsers or devices. Download the .md file to keep a copy.
- The PDF has the whole page in it
- Use Print or save as PDF from this page: only the preview is printed. If your browser adds headers and footers, turn them off in its print dialog.
