Keyboard Tester
Test every key of your keyboard: see which keys your browser receives, with key codes.
Runs in your browser Your input never leaves your device.
Press Start testing, then press every key. While testing, the keys do not scroll the page or trigger browser shortcuts (except those your system keeps for itself). Press Esc twice to stop.
Grey: not pressed yet. Blue: held down now. Green: pressed and released. Some keys never reach a web page (for example the Fn key, media keys and system shortcuts), and laptops lack the number pad.

About this tool
Press Start testing and then press each key of your keyboard. The key turns blue while you hold it and green once you have pressed and released it, and the counter shows how many of the 104 keys of a full-size keyboard have been tested. Below the keyboard the last key you pressed is described: the character it produces, its code (the physical key, such as KeyA, which does not change with the language of your layout), the old numeric key code and whether it is on the left, right or number pad. Use it to find a key that does not respond, a key that registers twice, or a laptop that cannot send certain combinations. While the test is on, the page stops keys from scrolling or triggering the browser, so you can test Tab, Space, the arrow keys and function keys; press Esc twice to stop. A few keys never reach any web page, such as the Fn key, media keys and shortcuts that the system keeps for itself. The layout shown is a US full-size keyboard; keys of other layouts are matched by their physical position, and a key that is not on the picture is counted as 'other'. We tested the page by sending every key of the layout to it in Chrome and checking each one turned green. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Press Start testing.
- Press every key and look for ones that stay grey.
- Read the details of the last key under the keyboard.
- Press Esc twice to stop.
Common problems
- A key stays grey
- It may be broken, dirty or not sent to web pages (Fn, media keys). Try it in another program, or clean under the key.
- The page scrolls or a shortcut opens
- Press Start testing first: while testing is on, keys are kept from their usual action.
- My laptop has no number pad keys
- Laptops often lack the number pad, so those keys stay grey. They count as not tested.
