Mouse Tester

Test mouse buttons, double click, scroll wheel and pointer movement, with a report rate estimate.

Runs in your browser Your input never leaves your device.

Click, double-click, scroll and move the mouse in this box. After your first click, the wheel and the right-click menu are used by the test instead of the page; press Tab or click outside to get them back.

The report rate is how often your browser receives the position while you move: many browsers combine events to the screen refresh rate, so a 1000 Hz mouse may show about 60 to 240.

About this tool

Click, double-click, scroll and move your mouse in the test area. Each of the five buttons (left, middle, right, back and forward) turns blue while pressed and green once it has worked, the wheel shows its direction, and the counters show how many clicks and double clicks were received. A mouse that double-clicks when you click once shows up as extra clicks in the counter, which is the usual fault of a worn switch. The position inside the box and the type of pointer (mouse, pen or touch) are shown as well, and a moves-per-second figure tells you how often the browser receives the position while you move. That figure is not exactly the mouse's polling rate: browsers usually combine events to the refresh rate of the screen, so a 1000 Hz mouse often shows 60 to 240 events per second, and when several positions are combined their number is shown. The right-click menu and the scroll are switched off inside the box so you can test those buttons without leaving the page. The back and forward buttons are used by some mice for navigation; they work in the test area when your browser sends them to the page. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Click each button inside the test area.
  2. Scroll up and down, and double-click.
  3. Move the mouse to see position and report rate.
  4. Press Reset to start again.

Common problems

A button does not light up
Try another USB port or the mouse's own software; some browsers do not pass the back and forward buttons to the page.
One click counts as two
The switch may be worn out. Compare with another mouse.
The report rate looks low
Browsers combine pointer events. A value near your screen refresh rate is normal, even for a gaming mouse.
