About this tool
Generate a terms of service template for your website or app. It covers acceptance, minimum age, accounts, acceptable use, user content, payments, intellectual property, warranty disclaimer, limitation of liability, termination, governing law and contact details, adapting to the options you choose. It runs in your browser and produces a general template, not legal advice.
How to use it
- Enter your site name, URL, company name and contact email.
- Set the minimum age and your governing law (country or state).
- Tick accounts, user content or paid products if they apply.
- Press Generate, then copy or download the result.
Terms of service, terms and conditions, terms of use
These are three names for the same document: the rules people accept when they use your site or app. Use whichever name you prefer; the content is what matters.
A privacy policy is a different document. It explains what personal data you collect and why, and data-protection laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA often require one. Most sites publish both; the Privacy Policy Generator covers the second.
Before you publish
- Read the whole text and delete any clause that does not apply to you.
- Replace every placeholder, including the governing law and the contact email.
- If you sell to consumers, add your refund and cancellation terms and check local consumer law. In the EU, for example, consumers can withdraw from most online purchases within 14 days.
- Link the terms in your site footer. At sign-up or checkout, ask people to tick a box agreeing to them: an explicit agreement is easier to enforce than a footer link alone.
- Add a "last updated" date and change it whenever you edit the terms.
- If your business carries real legal risk, have a lawyer review the result.
Common problems
- Governing law left blank
- Enter the country or state whose laws should apply; otherwise a placeholder is used.
- Selling to consumers
- Consumer-protection rules (refunds, withdrawal rights) vary by country. Have a lawyer review the paid-products wording.
Frequently asked questions
Is a terms of service legally required?
Usually not. Few laws require a website to have terms of service, but they set the rules of use, limit your liability and let you close abusive accounts. A privacy policy is different and is often required when you collect personal data.
Can I copy another website's terms?
No. Terms are copyrighted text and were written for a different business. Generate your own and adapt them.
