Text Recipe Builder: Chain Text Tools

Chain text tools into a recipe, like trim, dedupe, sort, then Base64, and share it as a link.

Runs in your browser Your input never leaves your device.

StepsEach step works on the result of the one above.

The link contains the steps and their settings (for example the words of a find and replace), never the text in the input box. Everything runs in this page.

    About this tool

Most text jobs take more than one step: strip the spaces, remove empty lines, remove duplicates, sort, then maybe encode the result. Doing that with separate tools means copying text back and forth. The recipe builder lets you stack the steps instead. Pick tools from the list in the order you need; each step takes the result of the one above, and you can open any step to see what the text looked like at that point. The steps are the same tools that have their own pages on this site: case conversion, whitespace and line tools, find and replace, sorting and de-duplication, encoders and decoders such as Base64, URL, HTML entities, binary and Morse, and converters between JSON, CSV, TSV, YAML and XML. Move steps up and down, change their settings, or remove them. If a step cannot process its input, for example JSON that is not valid, the recipe stops there, marks the step and shows the result from before it. The recipe lives in the address of the page: use Copy recipe link to share it or bookmark it, and the link opens the same steps for anyone. The link holds the steps and their settings, such as the words of a find and replace, but never the text in the input box, so you can share a link even when your text is private. Start from one of the examples, such as cleaning up a list or decoding Base64 into formatted JSON. Everything runs in your browser. Limits: 25 steps and 2 million characters of text. Tools that only report on text, such as word counters and validators, and tools that need a network are not available as steps.

    How to use it

    1. Paste your text, or start from an example recipe.
    2. Add steps with the Add a step list, in the order you want them to run.
    3. Adjust each step's settings, reorder or remove steps, and open a step to see its intermediate result.
    4. Copy the result, or copy the recipe link to reuse or share the steps.

    Common problems

A step is marked red and the result stops early
That step could not process its input, for example it expected JSON but got something else. Look at the result after the step above it, and fix the order or the settings.
The tool I want is not in the list
Only tools that turn text into text can be steps. Counters, validators and tools that call a server cannot. You can still use them on the final result from their own pages.
A shared link shows a warning about a skipped tool
The link was made with a tool that no longer exists or is not available here. The other steps still work.
    The result is empty
Check that there is input text, and that an early step is not removing everything, such as a replace with a pattern that matches the whole text.
A step says it failed although the text looks fine
The text tools report a problem by returning a message that starts with a warning sign or a cross. If a step's result itself begins with one of those signs, the recipe treats it as a failed step.
