About this tool
Social networks and apps show avatars in circles. Drop a picture, choose a shape (circle, rounded square or plain square), zoom in with the slider and drag the picture so the face or logo sits where you want it; the arrow keys move it too. Then pick the size, from 256 to 2048 pixels, and a transparent, white or black background, and download the PNG. The crop window is always square and always inside the picture, so there are no empty edges, and the corners outside the circle are transparent. The picture is not stretched. The result is a PNG because JPG cannot be transparent; if a site needs a JPG, choose a white or black background and convert it with the PNG to JPG tool. We checked the output with synthetic pictures: the corners of a circle crop are fully transparent, the centre and the edge points carry the right colours, and the window geometry stays inside the picture for any zoom and position. The picture is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
How to use it
- Drop a picture.
- Choose the shape and zoom, and drag the picture into place.
- Pick the size and background.
- Download the PNG.
Common problems
- The corners are black in my app
- The app may not support transparency. Choose a white or black background so the corners are filled.
- The picture is blurry
- Choose a larger size, and start from a larger picture. A small picture enlarged stays soft.
- I want a JPG
- Download the PNG with a solid background and convert it with PNG to JPG.
