About this tool
Choose an image and enter a new width, a new height or both. With Keep ratio ticked, filling in one side calculates the other to preserve the proportions, and filling in both fits the picture inside that width and height box without stretching it (a 400 x 200 picture in a 100 x 100 box becomes 100 x 50). Untick Keep ratio to use exactly the width and height you entered, which can stretch the picture. Leave both empty to keep the original size. Sizes above about 16,000 pixels per side are refused with a message because browsers cannot create such images. The image is redrawn on a canvas in your browser and the result is a PNG named after your file, with its size in pixels and kilobytes shown. Your file is never uploaded. Because PNG is lossless, photos can come out larger than the original JPEG, and enlarging cannot add detail.
How to use it
- Drop an image or choose a file.
- Enter a width, a height, or both. Keep ratio is on by default and fits the picture inside the box.
- Check the preview and the new size.
- Press Download.
Common problems
- The picture looks stretched
- Keep ratio is unticked, so the exact width and height you entered were used. Tick Keep ratio to fit the picture inside the box without distortion.
- The output file is bigger than the original
- The result is always a PNG, which is lossless. For smaller photos, convert to WebP or use a compressor afterward.
- The enlarged image is blurry
- Making an image bigger cannot create detail that was never there.
