About this tool

Choose a picture and the number of rows and columns, up to 20 by 20. The preview shows the grid lines, and the ZIP contains one file per tile named with its number and its row and column. The tiles are cut so that they cover the picture exactly, with no gaps and no overlap: when the size is not evenly divisible, the last row and column are a pixel or two different. Tick the option to number the tiles in posting order for a profile grid, because platforms show the newest post first, so the last tile has to be posted first. PNG keeps every pixel and JPG makes smaller files. We verified the tile geometry for many sizes by checking that every pixel belongs to exactly one tile, and that ImageMagick joins the tiles back into a picture identical to the original. Pictures are processed in your browser; very large pictures take a few seconds. The picture is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Drop a picture.
  2. Set rows and columns and check the grid on the preview.
  3. Choose PNG or JPG, and the numbering.
  4. Download the ZIP.

Common problems

The tiles are not all the same size
If the width or height does not divide evenly, the last tiles differ by a pixel or two. Crop the picture to a size that divides evenly if you need identical tiles.
My posts show in the wrong order
Instagram shows the newest post first and the grid fills from the top right. Use the posting-order option and post tile 1 first.
The ZIP is large
Choose JPG, or start with a smaller picture.
