About this tool
Type the network name (SSID) and password, and pick the security type; the code updates as you type. Scanning it with a phone camera offers to join the network, so guests never read out or mistype a password. The code uses the standard WIFI: format that Android 10 and later and iPhone cameras understand. Special characters in names and passwords, such as semicolons, colons, commas, quotes and backslashes, are escaped so they survive scanning, and names made only of digits are quoted so scanners do not read them as hex. WPA passwords must be 8 to 63 characters, as the standard requires. The tool runs in your browser and the password is not uploaded, but anyone who sees the printed code can join the network, so treat it like the password itself.
How to use it
- Enter the network name exactly as it appears on your devices.
- Choose the security type your router uses, usually WPA or WPA2.
- Enter the password, or choose No password for an open network.
- Tick Hidden network only if the network does not broadcast its name.
- Download the PNG and print it or share it.
Common problems
- The phone does not offer to join
- Check the network name and password for typos and capital letters, and confirm the security type matches your router. Older Android versions need a QR scanner app instead of the camera.
- My hidden network does not connect
- Tick Hidden network. Without it, phones look for a broadcast network and may not find yours.
- Anyone can join my network now
- The code contains the password. Share it only where you would share the password, or put guests on a guest network.
