About this tool

Choose where the number goes (any corner or the middle of the top or bottom), how it looks (1, Page 1, Page 1 of 10, 1 / 10 or - 1 -), the number to start from, the text size and which pages get a number. Tick the box to leave the first page, for example a cover, without a number; the count then starts on the second page. Numbers are placed as the page looks on screen, so pages that are turned sideways get a number in the right corner, and pages that are cropped are measured from the visible area. Your file stays on your device: it is read and changed in this page and is never uploaded, so it is safe for contracts, IDs and other private documents. The number is drawn on top of the page in a standard font (Helvetica) in black. It becomes part of the page, so it cannot be changed later, and it can cover content in the margin, so keep the original. A PDF with a password must have the password removed first. The result is saved as a new file, so a digital signature on the original no longer verifies in the copy.

How to use it

  1. Drop your PDF on the page.
  2. Choose the position, format, start number and size.
  3. Optionally list the pages to number, or skip the first page.
  4. Press Add page numbers and download the PDF.

Common problems

The number overlaps the page's own footer
Choose another corner, or the opposite edge (top instead of bottom).
I want the cover without a number and page 2 to show 1
Tick Do not number the first page. Page 2 then gets the Start at number, which is 1 by default. To make page 2 show 2, set Start at to 2.
Total pages shows the wrong total
The total is the number of pages in the whole file, even if you number only some of them.
